The room was dark except for the blue light from her phone and the small lamp by the bed she had forgotten to turn off earlier. It was after midnight—the kind of hour when every unfinished thought gets louder and every unanswered prayer starts tapping at your ribs.
She opened the prayer app because it felt easier than starting from scratch. Her hands were cold under the blanket. Her mind was tired in that deep way that makes even hope feel like effort.
A list of prompts appeared on the screen: gratitude, surrender, peace, guidance. Words that used to come easier than they did tonight. She stared at them until they blurred a little around the edges.
She wanted clarity so badly it almost hurt. A sign would’ve been nice. A door opening would’ve been better. Instead there was only silence—the kind that can feel comforting on good days and unbearable on hard ones.
So she didn’t force a polished prayer. She just said what was true.
“I’m tired.”
Then after a pause: “I don’t know what You’re doing.”
Another pause.
“But I’m still here.”
The silence did not break open with fireworks or instant peace. But something softened in her anyway—not because everything changed, but because she stopped performing strength for an audience of one.
She set the phone face down on the nightstand and let herself breathe under the covers like somebody who was allowed to be unfinished tonight.
Faith is sometimes just staying in the room when your words run out.
The Reflection
Waiting on God can feel less like confidence and more like endurance with your hands open. That does not make your faith fake; it makes it honest.
You do not have to say more than you have tonight. Sometimes “I’m still here” is its own kind of prayer.
Practical Use / Real-Life Examples
Before bed tonight, say one sentence prayer instead of trying to explain everything.
Self-Check: What am I asking God for most often lately?
Just Doing Life Connection
Some seasons ask for patience before they offer clarity. Everybody has a story, and sometimes faith is simply choosing not to leave when everything feels silent.
Take Action
If you’re in that kind of waiting right now, be gentle with yourself tonight. Keep showing up honestly—even if all you can offer is a whisper.
