The Missed Bus

Posted in

Cassie sprinted as fast as she could, but the bus doors closed seconds before she reached the stop. For a moment, she cursed her luck, then slumped onto the bench. A man sitting nearby smiled and started a conversation.

Their chat wandered from mundane topics to deep ones, and Cassie learned that he’d recently moved to the city and was struggling to make friends. The missed bus turned into a bright memory because she stayed present and open. When Cassie finally caught the next bus, she felt strangely grateful.

Just doing life, she thought, meant letting go of rigid expectations and staying open to whatever unfolded. She realized how often small setbacks could create space for unexpected joy, if only she paid attention.
