Dividing the Voices – Just Doing Life

Posted in

Lily lay awake, mind racing. One voice said, “You’re not enough. God’s tired of you. This will never change.” Another voice, softer, reminded her of what she’d been reading: “Nothing can separate us from the love of God.”

Before, she would have believed whatever was loudest. But lately, in quiet moments on her couch with her Bible and a cup of tea, she’d been learning to “rightly divide” what she heard inside—measure every thought against what she’d studied. That was her just doing life: no spotlight, just her and God sorting through the noise.

So she sat up in bed and spoke out loud: “That first voice is not God. It doesn’t match what He’s said. I reject it.”

Then she repeated the truth she knew, even if her feelings lagged behind.

The circumstances didn’t change overnight, but Lily did. For the first time, she felt like she wasn’t just being dragged around by her thoughts. What she had studied was now defending her. She wasn’t memorizing verses to be religious; she was arming her heart for the real, messy work of just doing life.
