The Bedside Candle: Finding Light in Dark Days

Posted in

Elias couldn’t get out of bed.

Not because he didn’t want to.

Because he couldn’t.

The weight felt invisible.

But real.

Hours passed.

Then more hours.

The room stayed the same.

Curtains closed.

Air still.

Silence heavy.

He looked at the table beside him.

A candle sat there.

Unused.

He reached for it slowly.

Hands shaking slightly.

Lit it.

A small flame appeared.

That was all.

No sudden energy.

No dramatic change.

Just light.

Soft.
Warm.
Alive.

He stared at it.

Breathing slowed.

Thoughts softened.

“I am still here,” he whispered.

Not strong.

Not fixed.

But present.

Sometimes healing doesn’t begin with big steps.

Sometimes it begins with a single, quiet act.

Sometimes survival is victory.
